The ultimate Bavarian experience. On Wednesdays, there is free live Volksmusik. It’s nice but the musicians played one 2 minute song and took a 20 minute break. The view is beautiful and there’s a petting zoo. Adorable! The bread platter was average. Nothing spectacular. Definitely worth a visit!

Café Pauli is an absolute must if visiting Aschau or the Chiemgau area. It is a short walk out of the village through nice countryside, alternatively it is a very short drive. When you get close to Café Pauli you pass a small out door swimming pool fed by water from the river and marsh nearby. The murky waters are said to be very good for you. Where the river meets the marsh water you can see the divide from the different sources. Up a short drive and you arrive at Café Pauli. The place is a guesthouse with an excellent café / restaurant. I'd recommend arriving mid-morning for a weissewurst and weissebier (when in Rome and all that) sitting on the terrace with fantastic views of the valley and mountains. They also do excellent cheese and meat plates a huge range of various things on toast and great cakes. Children are well catered for and there is a small petting zoo and play area. My sister and brother-in-law have stayed in the guest house and said it was excellent. The staff have always been really friendly when we have visited and this is a welcoming, relaxing and authentic place to visit. Very good value and highly recommended.

What an amazing Cafe cum Beergarden. Wonderful views and great service in traditional Bavarian Tracht. Sitting outside and looking over Aschau into the Alps, this is really a million dollar atmosphere

I ordered a glass of red wine (my mistake). Unfortunately I got this horrible red wine, which the taste was like vinegar already. I went to the bar and said that the wine wasn't good. The person in charge responded that there was nothing wrong with the wine and the merlot, was the cheapest choice. I know perfectly how a merlot taste and this was an old wine.
He said he couldn't do anything about it, he make me pay for it and gave me nothing else. It was absolutely undrinkable!
I'm sorry because I used to go there very gladly. Not anymore.

We spent 2 nights in the pension over the easter holidays and we actually were very happy staying there. Is a small, but very nice accommodation, a family business. We had a small apartment with bathroom and one bedroom. Was all perfectly clean and a good mixture between classic Bavarian style and modern equipment. There was nothing to complain about the room- they have prepared a small bed for the little one, though about everything. There was breakfast included- nothing special, but all you need. And this point is actually the one that costs the one point less- depends on the person who was serving the experience was completely different- something very nice, sometimes you have the feeling you are on the wrong place. At least for me, but not only after discussing with my wife and our friends - the final touch and the feeling you are really welcomed and you shall feel like at home was missing. Also the lack of reception and that you talk always to different people from those working in the hostel and cafeteria doesn’t really give you the feeling you have a contact person. I had the chance to talk to the boss - she is really nice person and was very prompt and responsive, but both times had the feeling was disturbing her for something, and it was rather me than her being the source of this. Was just like the service personal had to get her out of the kitchen or wherever she was. So all in all i must say the place is 1A and there is absolutely nothing to complain about. However if you like to have a bit more personal treatment and really feel welcome, maybe better search for another place. For those, who are interested only into the technical details of the accommodation- this is your place. Prices were ok- i think 150€/night for the apartment (breakfast included) is nit cheap, but having in mind it was easter and school holiday, i think is fair enough. Forgot to mention that is the perfect place for family with kids- there is huge playground and animals, many and different. Kids can feed them and play a bit with them. The view and the landscape around is wonderful as well and there are no big streets around- so basically only cars coming to the cafeteria. It is by the way a very popular daily trip as it offers huge number of cakes and is mentioned in many guide books.
